Mountain On The Moon

Mountain on the Moon is a experimental urban intervention in the heart of Madrid.

Designed by Enorme Studio for MINI Spain, the installation transforms an underutilized plaza into a civic, technological, and ecological meeting space.

Halfway between scenography and infrastructure, the piece combines participatory design, renewable energy and citizen activation, becoming a artificial topography loaded with functions, stories and possibilities.

"Mountain on the Moon proposes a public space capable of generating its own mobile ecosystem."

Strategy

The project is based on a double ambition: revalue public space as a place of everyday use and explore new forms of urban energy through design.

Faceted geometric structures reminiscent of geological formations are used, transforming them into supports for social interaction and energy recharge.

It features reading and charging stations powered by solar and kinetic energy, facilitating collective uses linked to rest, work, or leisure.

The scenery becomes a self-sufficient, detachable and replicable urban device, that not only occupies a place, but also transforms it symbolically and functionally.

Impact

The installation activated an underutilized space in the center of Madrid and turned it into a living prototype of sustainable urban design.

During its activation, It was used by hundreds of visitors as a place to read, charge, meet or rest, making visible how ephemeral infrastructure can have a real and lasting impact.

Beyond its aesthetic function, the project showed the capacity of design to intervene in the ecological transformation of cities.

The alliance with technological and environmental entities reinforced its pedagogical character, turning it into a public laboratory for urban innovation.

"An installation that not only represents the future, but also effectively demonstrates the activation of unused spaces."
