The Portable City It is an urban intervention developed by Enorme Studio for the Festival of the New European Bauhaus.
The installation is presented as a mobile and habitable infrastructure, designed to activate public space from the minimum scale: the furniture.
Halfway between portable architecture and social device, the project generates a platform for meeting, relaxation and experimentation, accessible at street level, where users are the protagonists of their activation.
An opportunity to think about the city of the future through flexible, green, and shared approaches.
The strategy of The Portable City It starts from a simple but radical hypothesis: Street furniture can be a driver of social transformation.
From this premise, the project is articulated in two main pieces: a greenhouse-laboratory, understood as a space for community meeting and production, and three modules of portable furniture, conceived as urban stands to host workshops, work sessions, rest or conversation spaces.
The intervention reinterprets furniture not as passive equipment, but as active, lightweight, and critical infrastructure, capable of promoting a new relationship between citizens, design, and public space.
A mobile urban set, reversible and activated by people.
The Portable City proposes a model replicable of urban activation from minimal, sustainable and participatory devices.
Its impact lies in its ability to create a city from small gestures: a chair, a greenhouse, a conversation.
When installed in the context of the New European Bauhaus, the intervention becomes a manifesto piece that questions the dominant urban models and focuses on flexibility, vegetation and co-creative design.
The project enables not only new uses, but also new perspectives on the public, in a European context of ecological, social and spatial transition.
